Isabel Crespí Riutort

Linguist. Researcher and lecturer at the University of the Balearic Islands. Member of the research group GRESIB.

About me

I am a linguist and an assistant professor at Departament de Filologia Catalana i Lingüística General of the Universitat de les Illes Balears (UIB). I am currently a member of the research group GRESIB (Research Group on Sociolinguistics in the Balearic Islands) and an external collaborator of the Centre for Catalan Studies at Queen Mary University of London.

In 2014 I got my B.A. in Catalan and Spanish Studies at Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB), with a double Minor on Linguistics and Italian Studies. In 2015, I got my M.A. in Theoretical and Applied Linguistics at Pompeu Fabra University (UPF) and in 2020 I defended my PhD dissertation within the Cognitive Science and Language program at the Centre de Lingüística Teòrica of the UAB. My thesis, supervised by Dr Gemma Rigau and entitled Aspect and argument structure in Catalan passive constructions, focuses on the semantics, the internal structure and combinatorial properties of passive structures in Catalan. From 2020 to 2022 I worked as a Catalan Teaching Assistant at Queen Mary University of London and as the administrator of the Centre for Catalan Studies of this university.

In addition to my interest in research and teaching, I also like to collaborate in the defence of Catalan linguistic rights. That is why I am a member of Plataforma per la Llengua (Balearic Islands) and I have participated in the Voluntariat per la Llengua, coordinated by the Consorci per la Normalització Lingüística.
